International Visitors Center of Chicago and American Southeast Europe Chamber of Commerce (AmSECC) presented a Young Internationals Night with Diplomat in Residence, Mr. Brian Flora. Sixty guests enjoyed a dinner buffet of authentic Bosnian-Herzegovinian cuisine in Sarajevo Restaurant, while learning about careers in the U.S. foreign service. Guests were also able to view a clip of "Enjoy Life - Bosnia and Herzegovina." The key speaker Brian Flora, a career diplomat with the U.S. Foreign Service, has been assigned to Vietnam, Chad, Tunisia, twice to Germany, Belgium, Romania, (where he was an eye witness to the Romanian Revolution), and Switzerland. Until the summer of 2007 he served as Minister Counselor for Political Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Ottawa, Canada. He is currently serving as Diplomat in Residence at the University of Illinois at Chicago, responsible for recruiting for the U.S. Foreign Service throughout the upper Midwest.
Mr. Flora gave astonishing eyewitness accounts about countries he served, particularly surrounding events leading up to the revolution in Romania. He described the extensive training members receive while serving in the Foreign Services.
Following Mr. Flora’s speech, there was a question and answer session.
