Most global communities are moving away from fossil fuel based economies towards economies based on sustainable, renewable energy and electricity. Working from the premise that renewable electricity produced by solar and wind is intermittent – Dr. Krajete believes that hydrogen is better suited for long term storage of electricity. Chemical means like hydrogen and hydrocarbons i.e. typical fuel, are better suited for long term storage of electricity than currently used physical methods like batteries in E cars and pumped hydro (used by large power producers). Currently, however, this form of harvesting and storing hydrogen power suffers from non-existent infrastructure, storage needs, and poor end applications. Dr. Krajete`s proprietary technology would resolve many of these current issues simultaneously:
• stores power as methane as the main constituent of natural gas
• hydrogen energy and therefore electricity is kept as methane with minor losses
• methane has an existing and widely adopted infrastructure
• methane can be easily stored as LNG and CNG (liquid natural gas, compressed natural gas)
• methane can be easily used to extract all energy forms ranging from heat, via mechanical energy for the main customer in transportation business, and electricity through gas engines
• the process from electricity down to methane allows direct utilization of natural and industrial CO2 sources without purification
• Community Level. The integrated setup from electricity to methane realizes the idea of decentralized energy supply and energy independent communities
• On a national and geostrategic level, this integrated setup allows sun and wind export beyond oil and gas for economies who’s GDP depends on the export of natural resources.
At this time, Krajete is the only company aiming at the commercialization of electricity using microorganisms - there is no direct competitor with an electricity storing technology based on a biological process.
